Soy contains 18-24% of oil and 35-45% protein, 30% carbohydrate and 5% minerals.

It has a taproot with a strong hairy root system. Its roots are around 60-70 cm tall but they may grow up to 2 m as well. The plant is around 60-150 cm tall. It has 10-15 stems. Soy leaves consist of three small leaves. Its beans are 3,5 cm tall and 1 cm thick. A soy plant generally has 35-40 beans and when planted sparsely the figure may increase up to 200. Seeds (grains) are in differents shades of green, black, yellow, brown or they can be multicoloured. Soy plant accomodates to different climate regions. It is grown in many parts of the world succesfully. Still the best crop is achieved between May-September in climates where the temperature is around 25°C. Below 18°C and above 40°C temperatures may influence soybeans negatively. Soy can grow on different types of soil except for the sandy soil.
